Patrick Trefz, born 1970, Dusseldorf, Germany, lives and works in Santa Cruz, California. Trefz is an award winning art, documentary, and action photographer and filmmaker. He has been recognized for two critically acclaimed feature-length documentary films, Thread (2007) and Idiosyncrasies (2010). He has directed multiple music videos, commercials and shorts. Trefz’ photography work is known nationally and internationally with work in publications including Surfer, Big, Geo, and The New York Times, and is the author of Santa Cruz: Visions of Surf City (SolidPublishing, 2002), Thread (powerHouse, 2009), and Surfers’ Blood (powerHouse Books, 2012). Trefz is at the forefront of his filmmaking career, with two feature length documentary films currently in production, SURFERS' BLOOD and Outstanding in the Field:The Movie.
